Avenida Brasil (English: Brazil Avenue) is a Brazilian telenovela that aired on Rede Globo 26 March 2012 to 19 October 2012.

Plot [edit]

The main story line of Avenida Brazil is the obsessive quest for revenge by Nina (Débora Falabella), who as a child was called by her first name of Rita, where she was abandoned in a garbage dump in (Rio de Janeiro) by Carminha evil stepmother (Adriana Esteves) and her lover Max (Marcello Novaes), applies after a coup in Genésio (Tony Ramos), father of Rita, to stay as sole heir and split his share with her lover. After discovering the plan Carminha, Genésio ends up being beaten by her, where no forces, the police seek to denounce Carminha but dies accidentally hit by Tufão soccer ace (Murilo Benicio), on Avenida Brazil, north of Rio de Janeiro. At the dump, Rita knows Batata, a street kid who lives in the care of the landfill and Lucinda falls in love with Rita, becoming the love of his life, but end up separating after Rita be adopted by a family in Argentina and is called Nina, going to live in Mendoza, Argentina and Batata is discovered by Tufão ace after learning of his talent for football. Herein, the boy is called Jorginho and eventually be adopted by the family of Tufão, thanks to Carminha, who is married to Tufão, having a secret history (Jorginho is his son and Max, who she abandoned years ago). After 12 years, the current era of 2012, Nina grows up to be a great chef. She loses her parents and decides to return to Brazil to start his plan for revenge, leaving her boyfriend and her two sisters. She knows Ivana (Leticia Isnard), sister of Tufão, the Internet and can be hired by this family, thus approaching to avenge Carminha. Carminha an exemplary wife is now married to Tufão, who managed to separate the hairdresser Monalisa, the true love of Tufão. Carminha reached the high society and acquired a false image of a good woman, but keeps the evil rooted, creating situations and keeping his affair with Max, now married to the sister of Tufão, the Ivana, both by frame. Rita, now as Nina, comes to live with the family of Tufão, but discovers that Jorginho (Cauã Reymond), son of Tufão and Carminha, is his childhood love, then getting torn between love and revenge against her Carminha former stepmother.

Great success in Brazil [edit]

The soap opera had a successful debut, becoming increasingly popular, until becoming a great critical and commercial success. It became a favorite subject in the social networks of the internet, being one of the topics most discussed on Twitter, the hashtag reaching the top Trending Topics for each chapter of the story. The night of its final chapter became epic, on Twitter, the hashtag #OiOiOiFinal ranked first in world affairs on Twitter and continued after the end of the exhibition throughout Brazil. In addition to success in social networks, the last chapter brought Brazil to a halt making the streets of big cities like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and stand deserted. programs of Rede Globo had segments dedicated to the soap and several other Brazilian television stations also commented on the end of Avenida Brasil. With many connected TVs, there was a hoax that a blackout could occur in the whole country after the screening of the final episode due to an effect called "loading ramp" when the novel ends, people resume activities which could generate an overload leaving the country in the dark which did not actually occur. At the close of the soap opera, the telenovela beat its own record. As expected by most critics, the last episode was watched by 80 million people, a very high number, making it the highest rated TV program in 2012 in Brazil.^[1]
