The Journal of the History of Ideas is a peer-reviewed academic journal which publishes research in intellectual history. The journal "defines intellectual history expansively and ecumenically," and includes the histories of philosophy, literature and the arts, natural and social sciences, religion, and political thought. ^[1]

The journal was established in 1940 and has been published by the University of Pennsylvania Press since 2006. In addition to the print version, current issues are available electronically through Project MUSE, and earlier ones through JSTOR.

The journal is published quarterly in January, April, July, and October. It is edited by Warren Breckman (University of Pennsylvania), Martin J. Burke (The City University of New York), Anthony Grafton (Princeton University), and Ann E. Moyer (University of Pennsylvania).
