Here Captain! dear father!

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;

Walk the deck my Captain lies,

Fallen cold and dead.

el buque tuvo que sobrevivir a cada tormenta, ganamos el premio que buscamos;
el puerto está cerca, escucho las campanas, todo el mundo está exultante,
mientras siguen con sus ojos la firme quilla, el barco severo y desafiante:

oh, las lágrimas se tiñen de rojo,

mi Capitán está sobre la cubierta,

caído y muerto de frío.

Mi capitán no responde, sus labios están pálidos e inmóviles;
Mi padre no siente mi brazo, no tiene pulso ni voluntad;
El barco está anclado sano y salvo, el viaje ha terminado y se ha hecho;
De un viaje temeroso, el barco triunfador, entra con su objetivo realizado;

Exultamos, ¡oh costas y sonidos, oh campanas!

Pero yo, con triste pisada

Camino en cubierta donde está mi Capitán

Caído y muerto de frío.
